Yolanda Berry is a Detroit, Michigan native who was recruited to play Volleyball for KSU 1996.
Yolanda immediately became a starter and her dominant performance immediately put a footprint on the game.
In each of Yolanda’s four years she earned Athletic Letters. In the SIAC Conference, she earned the distinction as a great player on the hardwood. She is the first KSU volleyball player in history to earn SIAC All-Conference Team and the SIAC All-Tournament Team honors in each of her four years at KSU, from 1997 to 2000.
In 1998, Yolanda was a member of the SIAC Volleyball Championship team. Also in 1998, she was selected as the SIAC Most Valuable Player of the Year.
Yolanda and her team were ranked in the NCAA Division II Volleyball record books in 1998 for Hitting Percentage and Kills in a three-game match. In the 1999 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Final Statistics, Yolanda ended the season ranked 23rd in “Service Aces”. As a senior she played in 83 games and had 48 Service Aces for a .580 percentage. She was the only person from KSU ranked in any NCAA Division II categories. This percentage placed her as a top five in KSU history.
Yolanda has stayed active in her community as she has been an integral part of the Detroit Athlete Foundation since 2013. She has dedicated over 500 hours of service within the program which includes coaching, tutoring students in grades 6-12, skill development, and college mentorship. She is also one of Michigan’s top female bowlers as she carries over a 200 average.
Yolanda currently lives in Detroit, Michigan. She has three children, daughters Akira and Alani and son Ali.
